XVIII CENTURY ENGLISH POETRY METAPHYSICS

METAPHYSICAL POETRY The label is generally applied to a group of English poets of the seventeenth century and was first assigned by Dr. Johnson in the eighteenth pejorative, as a sign of decadence and distasteful. Remember that carriers were considered enlightened intellectuals d ela light of reason and harmony as opposed to the "barbarians" baroque. These poets barbarians
are: John Donne, John Fletcher, William Drummond, George Herbert, Richard Grashaw, Richard Lovelace, Andrew Marvell, among others.
The key concept in these poets is the WIT (> "subtlety, ingenuity, dexterity, visual acuity). But none of these expressions includes the scope of the WIT, which becomes the main instrument of the spirit, a kind of knife to tear the darkness of human stupidity. This poem wit require the free play of intellectual faculties of man, the pure domain of the spirit by the spirit. This is the poem concentrates all wisdom without admitting a bit of sense experience. We have a poetry that can only be achieved with hardest of asceticism: the mutilation of the body by the spirit. It has been said that poetry is a dark, difficult. But in his darkness, wit poetry aspires to hurt our eyes with its unusual light. First and then dazzles us blind. At the back end light and our eyes. The poet calls the reader an effort in reading spiritual exercise. Reduced to an exercise
"nakedness stripped of all image"
of these poets who speak English metaphysical.
JOHN DONNE Donne's poetry is deeply linked to life: Life and Creation, Poetry and Experience, confused him, as two poles or extreme stress. But, unlike other poets, Donne the balance is tipped toward the latter. The expense to live life and words, his instrument. Hence the defendant secrecy. The poet discovers that the language is unable to express emotions or states that only belong to the realm of man. The traditional criticism, absolutely myopic Donne accused of indulging in pure verbal play, recreate in the concept. It is obvious that the spacecraft is in Donne, but also using it, reveals a paradise. His poetry is deliberately obscure (like Mallarmé), but far from Góngora, who puts his intellect at the service of emotions and worlds beautifully drawn flowers tropical gems and senses intoxicated. However, Donne found the desert, draining the rarefied atmosphere and Earth's air.
laraíz Donne wants to reach final of words, its essence, its alchemy. And it does disregard the language. And contempt is destroyed. Donne binds and bends the language so that it becomes transparent glass, thus destroying the opacity of language.
Poetry is a Verdera autopsy slash the words with the tip of his pen until only the Idea. The floor is clean of any cargo material. The word is exposed. a word is purified or directly pure. The nakedness of the word will his alchemy. And in this poem arises alchemical operation.
Donne Love is the only justification for why the man can give way in the world. It is also the only redemption. Poetry does not exist without love, for living and creating are now the same thing. In the work of Donne, for, love and poetry are strung so tightly that it is impossible to separate his poetic activity erotic activity.
This activity takes erotic turn as a spiritual adventure. So the body takes on new role. Donne's love transforms into a kind of religion that is expected to eternal salvation. A mythical being, Women, the embodiment of Eros (According to the Greek conception), whose body is sacred and will be accessible to man through the mystical ecstasy. Only through the body flows the spirit and soul of the poet must devote to defining love to LAAM. The woman is the only visible and carnal form of Eros and solely through it as you can lift the soul of a poet. Only in this way can be understood as a poem entitled "Ecstasy."
